Hello! My name is Shannon. I’m originally from the United States but I have lived in both Japan and India. I currently live in Columbus, Ohio where I am a Project Manager and teach English 1:1 online. I enjoy meeting new people and love teaching both children and adults! I have an 11 year old son and have coached an elementary school problem solving team for five years. Speaking with people who want to improve their English is one of my favorite things to do and I love that technology allows me to do that every day. My teaching style is fun and engaging! I know that you’ll learn and retain more if I am funny and use lots of props and outside resources to help you gain context for new words and phrases. I don’t just want you to learn a English words so that you can point and identify objects. I want you to be conversational and achieve the goals you have for yourself or your child! I want you to do most of the speaking in our classes...I will assist and support you but I’ve learned through learning Japanese and Mandarin myself that using a language is the only way to really learn it! Why should you spend money to work with me? I’m an English teacher who has worked with adults and children so I can tailor my teaching to your specific needs. I’ve also been a foreign language learner so I know the challenges that you face and how best to help you overcome them! Please understand...I do not accept ‘audio only’ engagements with new students. Getting to know one another and being able to recognize when you understand our lessons takes time...face time. If, after we have worked together for a period of time, we both agree that audio-only classes could be effective, I would be willing to consider that type of arrangement at a future date!
