- AnonymMay 26, 2024Dear Dr. McPhill, I wanted to provide some feedback on your performance as a tutor for the Intermediate Statistics course this past semester. Overall, I thought you did a solid job and the students seemed to appreciate your teaching style and approach. One of the strengths I observed was your clear explanations of complex statistical concepts. You have a strong grasp of the material and were able to break down challenging topics in a way that was accessible to the students. Your use of visual aids and examples helped cement the ideas, and I saw many students nodding along during your lectures as things clicked for them. Your enthusiasm for the subject matter was also evident and helped keep the students engaged. Statistics can sometimes be dry, but you managed to make it interesting through your animated delivery and passion for the field. Students seemed to feed off that energy and were more attentive as a result. In terms of areas for improvement, I would suggest focusing a bit more on active learning techniques. While your lectures were effective, incorporating more opportunities for hands-on practice, group work, and class discussions could further enhance the learning experience. I noticed some students occasionally tune out during straight lecture format, so mixing it up a bit could help maintain their attention. Additionally, consider being a bit more responsive to student questions and concerns. A few students mentioned feeling like you sometimes rushed through material without fully addressing their queries. Slowing down and making sure everyone is tracking with the content could improve comprehension. Overall, though, I think you did a commendable job and the students seemed to gain a lot from your instruction.
